Bangkok at a glance

Bangkok is a hot capital of palaces, river boats and rail journeys. The Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun, Chinatown, Chatuchak Market, Jim Thompson House, the Bangkok National Museum, Lumphini Park, ICONSIAM and Khao San Road are linked by BTS, MRT and Chao Phraya boats, with day trips to Ayutthaya, floating markets, Maeklong Railway Market and Ancient City. The airport is Suvarnabhumi (BKK). Heat, modest temple dress and one area per half-day matter more than trying to visit every market.

One-day itinerary

  1. Morning: Visit the Grand Palace early with suitable clothing and current entry requirements checked.
  2. Lunch: Have lunch in the Rattanakosin area and take a break from the heat.
  3. Afternoon: Visit Wat Pho, then cross the river to Wat Arun by an operating boat service.
  4. Evening: Choose dinner by the river or in Chinatown without adding another major sight.
