Ho Chi Minh City at a glance
Ho Chi Minh City is a warm southern Vietnamese hub of museums, markets and river streets. The War Remnants Museum, Independence Palace, the Notre-Dame Cathedral area, the Central Post Office, Ben Thanh Market, Nguyen Hue Walking Street, the Saigon River, Cholon, Jade Emperor Pagoda and Landmark 81 sit on walking clusters, buses and ride-hailing, with day trips to the Cu Chi Tunnels, the Mekong Delta, Can Gio and Tay Ninh. Tan Son Nhat (SGN) is the catalogue airport. Heat, traffic and one neighbourhood at a time matter more than stacking every landmark.
Quick information
The drier months suit Nguyen Hue, river walks and Cholon. Heat is strong at midday year-round; keep indoor hours for museums and malls. The rainy season still works if you use covered pauses and recatch afternoon storms.
