Medellín at a glance

Medellín sits in a green Andean valley with an integrated metro, steep hills and distinct neighbourhoods. Use daylight for Plaza Botero, Comuna 13 and the Metrocable, and check the latest local advice before exploring unfamiliar areas.

Itineraries

Best areas to stay

  1. El Poblado

A practical neighbourhood base for dinners on Calle 10. Plaza Botero and Comuna 13 still need their own metro or cable-car journeys.

    Best for

Evening streets, Calle 10 and a practical base

  2. Laureles

Useful after a Comuna 13 morning. Avenida El Poblado here is for cafés, not for rushing Parque Arví the same afternoon.

    Best for

Cafés and a calmer stay than El Poblado

  3. Centro / Plaza Botero

    Plaza Botero

A compact centre for Plaza Botero and the museum next door. Use daylight; El Poblado is the evening neighbourhood.

    Best for

Botero sculptures and the Museo de Antioquia

  4. Santo Domingo

Useful if valley views are the point. Ride the metro and Metrocable in daylight; do not treat it as a substitute for El Poblado evenings.

    Best for

    Metrocable views over the valley
