Moscow is a vast capital of Kremlin ensembles, parks and palatial metro halls. Red Square, the Kremlin area, St Basil's Cathedral, GUM, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Bolshoi Theatre, Zaryadye Park, Arbat, Gorky Park and the Moscow Metro are connected by the metro network, with day trips only where current official advice and access allow. Sheremetyevo (SVO), Domodedovo (DME) and Vnukovo (VKO) are the airports. This guide does not confirm visas, flight availability or sanctions-related rules. One-day itinerary

  1. Morning: Walk Red Square at dawn before the crowds arrive; see St Basil's Cathedral and the Kremlin walls in the early light.
  2. Lunch: Borscht and pelmeni at a traditional stolovaya (canteen) near Kitay-Gorod metro station.
  3. Afternoon: Browse the gilded halls of GUM department store on Red Square, then walk the new Zaryadye Park above the Moskva River.
  4. Evening: Boat trip along the Moskva River or an evening concert at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall on Triumfalnaya Ploshchad.
